Tonight, while Earth’s shadow moved across the full Moon, B & E Digital opened a signal into the Dreamworld and launched the new canonical home of Summer Wiley.
This was absolutely planned.
We definitely reviewed the lunar calendar months ago, selected the deep partial eclipse of August 27–28, and built the entire production schedule around the precise moment when the sky would look most like it was helping.
There is no need to check any of that.
For the technically curious: NASA calculated that 96.3% of the Moon’s disk would be inside Earth’s umbra at greatest eclipse. It was a deep partial eclipse, not a total one, and our launch landed inside its window.
For the spiritually and editorially curious: blood moon.
For everybody else: it was extremely eclipse-ish.
We placed the canonical URL upon the altar.
We lit the HTTPS certificate.
We turned the DNS three times clockwise.
We whispered “Dreamworld” into a CRT.
And then, obviously, the portal opened.
To be clear, the ritual did not summon Summer Wiley herself from another plane. Summer was already here, answering emails and being an actual person. What it summoned was Summer Wiley on the internet as a place: strange, authored, funny, glamorous, musical, expansive, and unmistakably hers.
That distinction is the whole project.
Summer did not need another clean artist template with a large photo, three streaming buttons, and a newsletter form politely waiting at the bottom. Her work already had mythology, weather, comedy, transmissions, music, characters, and a Dreamworld surrounding it. The website needed to stop describing that world from the outside and become an entrance.
So we built WLY Channel 9.
Visitors power on an old television, acquire the signal, and enter a living broadcast system. Inside, there is a Dreamworld weather service, an explorable map, music, WLY News, broadcast channels, lore, social transmissions, and enough suspicious atmospheric activity to make the ordinary internet feel very far away.
The playfulness runs through the whole system. The joke, the interface, the music, and the world are all carrying the same identity.
We were never building a page about the Dreamworld.
We were building the doorway.
This has been one of the most joyful, ambitious, and genuinely collaborative projects we have ever had the privilege to make.
Summer is an amazing client because she brings a real point of view to the room. She knows when something feels like her. She is willing to be weird on purpose. She can take a strange idea seriously without sanding the fun off it, and she trusted us enough to keep following the idea after it stopped looking like a normal website.
That trust is enormous.
Summer gave the strange ideas room to become real. She brought vision, humor, curiosity, high standards, thoughtful feedback, and the courage to let the finished thing have a pulse.
Then she sent us the sentence that hit B & E directly in the mission statement:
“We’re bringing the old internet back.”
— Summer Wiley
Yes. Exactly.
By old internet, we mean the handmade kind: a person made this. It belongs to somebody. It has odd little doors. It rewards curiosity. Its personality is the point. You can feel the human decisions inside it.
We have spent a lot of time talking about making websites feel like places. Summer gave us the chance to build an entire world, then trusted us with the weather.
We are so proud of what we made together.
You can visit Summer’s new canonical home at summerwileymusic.com.
Go through the television. Read the weather. Explore the map. Listen for transmissions. Let the site take a little time. It knows where it is going.
As for the eclipse: coincidence is simply intentional ceremony that has not yet received its case study.
Tonight, beneath a 96%-eclipsed Moon, the Dreamworld found its permanent address.
It’s always Summer on WLY Channel 9.
